From the sunlit courts of Delray Beach to the global stage of Grand Slam glory, Coco Gauff’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Now, the 2023 US Open champion is paying it forward—just like her idol, Serena Williams—through a heartfelt act of philanthropy that celebrates her hometown and legacy.

Gauff, who became a tennis sensation after her breakthrough at Wimbledon 2019 where she stunned Venus Williams at just 15, continues to inspire with more than just her racquet. At 21, she now graces the iconic Wheaties cereal box, joining legends like Billie Jean King and Serena Williams in being recognized as the "Breakfast of Champions" by General Mills.

In a recent announcement shared via Wheaties’ official Instagram, Gauff revealed her latest community initiative. “I’m honored to be featured again on the Wheaties box. And even more excited to share that General Mills and I are donating $50,000 to Delray Beach Parks & Recreation,” she said. “I grew up playing on public tennis courts here in Delray, and it’s important for me to support the same spaces that helped shape my journey.”

This contribution reflects Gauff’s ongoing mission to enhance youth access to tennis facilities, particularly in underserved communities. The donation will help improve recreational infrastructure at Pompey Park, the very place where she trained under the guidance of her father and coach, Corey Gauff. Her connection to this park runs deep—it’s not only where she honed her skills but also where her grandfather, civil rights pioneer Eddie ‘Red’ Odom, has baseball fields named in his honor.

This isn't Gauff’s only philanthropic move. In February 2025, during Black History Month, she made headlines with a $100,000 donation to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The gift, which supports HBCU student-athletes, helped launch the Coco Gauff Scholarship Program, which will officially begin in May 2025. “My family’s ties to HBCUs go back generations,” Gauff shared. “This cause is very personal to me.”

Gauff’s hometown pride also inspired her New Balance CG2 sneakers and her recent Coco Delray low-top shoe launch, which pay homage to both basketball and tennis—sports that defined her early years. “Basketball was actually my dad’s first dream for me,” she once noted, “but I found myself through tennis.”

Through her efforts in youth development, education, and sports equity, Gauff is carving a space not just in tennis history, but in social impact. As she transitions into the clay court season, fans are hoping for a strong comeback after early-round exits in recent tournaments. Regardless of match results, her off-court victories continue to win hearts.
