The press conference held by BYD on March 17, 2025 is of great significance to BYD. Firstly, it released the "megawatt flash charging" technology. Secondly, it released two models, Tang L and Han L, with pre-sale prices of 270000 to 350000 yuan and 280000 to 360000 yuan, respectively, entering the mid to high end automotive market
BYD's "megawatt flash charging"
BYD's "megawatt flash charging" technology, officially released on the evening of March 17th, is one of the core innovations of its new generation super e-platform. This technology aims to achieve "fuel electric same speed" between the charging speed of electric vehicles and the refueling efficiency of fuel vehicles through multiple breakthrough designs, with the first models being the Han L and Tang L.
The charging power and speed of this technology reach 1000kW (1 megawatt), which is significantly higher than the current mainstream 600kW supercharging technology in the industry. The maximum power supported by a single gun is 800kW, and the total power in dual gun stacking mode can reach 1000kW.
The theoretical charging efficiency is 6-10 minutes to fully charge a 100kWh battery pack, which is close to the refueling speed of a gasoline car (such as charging for 5 minutes and driving for 200 kilometers). Support full SOC range high rate charging (0-100%), breaking the limitation of the "optimal charging range" (such as 20% to 80%) in traditional charging curves, and significantly reducing the end of charge time.
BYD Han L (pre-sale price 270000-350000 yuan)
Han L continues the style of the BYD Dynasty website family and incorporates innovative elements. The narrow LED headlight group on the front face is connected by chrome plated decorative strips, and the lower front bumper is equipped with a flow channel and black decorative parts.
The front hood adopts a U-shaped engine hood. The side profile of the car continues the Han coupe design, with side trim extending from the fender to the door handle, and a segmented waistline from the front fender to the rear, adding a sense of layering and creating a sprinting posture.
The rear of the car adopts a brand new design of through type taillights, with a more compact internal light chamber design and a clearly layered rear bumper. The bottom is decorated with a large-sized silver diffuser.
In terms of dimensions, the Han L has a length, width, and height of 5050/1960/1505mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2970mm. Compared to the BYD Han currently on sale, the Han L has increased its length by 55mm, width by 50mm, height by 10mm, and wheelbase by 50mm.
The interior of BYD HanL continues the family's luxury technology style, with a large amount of leather and chrome decorations. Its design inspiration comes from the courtyard configuration and the concept of "spine".
The center console, door panels, etc. are outlined with lines and matched with bamboo and wood decorative panels to form a cutting surface effect, enhancing the sense of hierarchy and design. The car is equipped with a large-sized suspended rotatable full LCD central control screen, a full LCD instrument panel, a three spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a newly designed front console.
The seats are wrapped in premium leather, and the front seats have heating, ventilation, and massage functions. In addition, some models also offer optional configurations such as roof LiDAR, side panel rearview camera, as well as different colored side trim strips, blackening kit, sunroof, lettering, and various wheel rim styles.
BYD HanL offers two types of power: pure electric and plug-in hybrid. The pure electric models will be built on the Super e-platform, while the plug-in hybrid models will use fifth generation hybrid technology and offer two wheel drive and four-wheel drive options.
The pure electric version of the rear wheel drive motor has a power of 500 kilowatts and a maximum speed of 240 kilometers per hour; The front and rear motor power of the four-wheel drive model are 230 kW and 580 kW respectively, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 2.7 seconds and a maximum speed of 270 km/h.
All models in the series will be equipped with flash charging batteries with a capacity of 83.212 kWh. The rear wheel drive model has a CLTC driving range of 701 kilometers, while the four-wheel drive version has a CLTC driving range of 601 kilometers.
The plug-in hybrid version consists of a 1.5T engine and an electric motor. Both rear wheel drive and four-wheel drive models have an electric motor power of 200 kilowatts and a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour. In addition, the model is expected to be equipped with a 29.462 degree lithium iron phosphate battery, with a pure electric range of 170 kilometers.
BYD Tang L (pre-sale price 280000 to 360000 yuan)
The appearance of the BYD Tang L adopts the latest "Loong Face" aesthetic design. The split front headlight group is connected by a through chrome decorative strip, and the front bumper has black decorative parts and hidden air ducts on both sides. The center is equipped with an active air intake grille.
The side door area of the vehicle has a three-dimensional profile, equipped with silver decorative strips, hidden door handles, and ventilation openings. The rear of the car is equipped with a brand new "bamboo charm" styling through type tail light group, and the spoiler above the rear windshield is equipped with longitudinal high mounted brake lights and hidden rear wipers.
In terms of size, the Tang L measures 5040/1996/1760 millimeters in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2950 millimeters, positioning it as a mid to large sized SUV. Compared with the BYD Tang DM currently on sale, the Tang L has increased its length by 70 millimeters, width by 46 millimeters, height by 35 millimeters, and wheelbase by 130 millimeters.
The interior of the Tang L also adopts the same design inspiration as the Han L, with lines outlining the center console, door panels, etc., paired with bamboo and wood (some models are metal) decorative panels, forming a cutting surface effect.
The car is equipped with a large-sized suspended rotatable full LCD central control screen, full LCD instrument panel, three spoke multifunction steering wheel, and HUD head up display system.
The central armrest box is equipped with a car compressor refrigerator and supports two-way opening. In addition, Tang L is equipped with panoramic sunroof, "Di Sheng" sound system, ambient lighting and other features.
Tang L offers two types of power: pure electric and plug-in hybrid. The pure electric model will be built on the Super e-platform, while the plug-in hybrid version will use fifth generation hybrid technology.
The pure electric version of the rear wheel drive model is equipped with a 500 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, which accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.3 seconds; The front and rear motor power of the four-wheel drive model are 230 kW and 580 kW respectively, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 3.9 seconds.
The pure electric version is equipped with a 100.531 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, with a rear wheel drive range of 670 kilometers and a four-wheel drive range of 600 kilometers. In addition, the Tang L also offers a four-wheel drive version with a roof mounted unmanned cabin, with a range of 560 kilometers, equipped with the Lingyuan fast charging intelligent in car drone system.
The plug-in hybrid version is equipped with the fifth generation DM hybrid technology and offers both two wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. The maximum power of the 1.5T engine is 115 kW, with a 200 kW motor for the two wheel drive version and two 200 kW motors for the four-wheel drive version. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Equipped with a 35.624 kWh battery pack.
BYD's "megawatt flash charging" technology, although leading in the industry, is currently difficult for most consumers to fully benefit due to limitations such as the popularity of supporting charging stations.
The Han L and Tang L released this time are positioned higher than the current Han and Tang, with upgraded size, power, and configuration, and a price range of 250000 to 350000 yuan. However, there is competition from brands such as Xiaomi, NIO, and Jike in this price range, and there are also numerous competitors in the SUV market.
BYD needs to overcome the existing market awareness and brand image limitations brought by its large number of low-end models in order to enhance its brand tone. Brothers, do you think BYD Han L and Tang L can succeed? Or if you have 300000 yuan, would you buy Han L or Tang L?
